I am delighted that the staff at bioStories and editor Mark Leichliter have once again chosen one of my pieces of creative non-fiction for publication. Yes, it’s about hair…sort of.

  6. Ohh, I loved your story! It had me holding my breath! All the tender feelings of a first love housed in a silver box. As you undoubtedly know, Mr. Anders was right to return the braids to you, even if your grandkids could care less!

  8. Hello, I especially loved the ending and how once again you used your teaching skills to educate the new faculty each year. Your story so clearly made your 4th grade self come alive, and reminds me of the creativity and tenderness of children. Happy Thanksgiving and wishing you a wonderful stay on St. John’s.   9. Gabriella, stories of pure love are always touchant, but they are not always as brilliant as this one is. Scissors and little girls’ hair often result in mischief, but nail scissors! Plus I learned what tar heels are, and rosin heels, and cypress knees–holy cow. Including the photo of those beautiful braids is a nice touch. I want to hug that sweet little girl, and that lovely Mr. Anders. I am glad the mother did not get upset, plus I bet she looked adorable with her new haircut. (It surprised me to see the hair in the author-photo as not-black.) I want to buy a copy of your book when it comes out.
